Search Engine Optimization Secrets from Zane Durant If you are a new web site that features Chewing Gum - don't pick a name like - "TheBigBubble.com" - try to get a name that is searched for everyday like GumBalls.com or WholesaleCandy.com. It may not sound as cool as "TheBigBubble" - but how many people search for gum by going to Google and typing in The Big Bubble. Zero.
Now, on to the most important part of your designing your web page - making sure the title is correct. Let's say you already picked the name: The Big Bubble. You can still be #1 when people use the term Gum Balls if you put those words in your title copy properly. The title is the first place the search engine looks when it gets to your site. You only get 9 words in a title so make sure the keywords you want to feature are here first. A good title for "TheBigBubble" would be: Gum Balls, Chewing Gum, Bubble Gum, The Big Bubble - You could actually drop the name "TheBigBubble" and add other related keywords instead. Never put your name first in the title of your page, save it for the first big heading in your copy. Use this formula with every page that you have on your site. If one page goes to bubble gum and another page goes to chewing gum, make sure each pages title is correct and highlights the information.
So by now you should have a basic understanding of how to find your keywords and how to apply them to your domain name and basically where they go in your copy. I have to do some research for a local company so I thought I would walk you through the process. This client is a martial arts school called Tiger Kung Fu. They are located in Reno, Nevada and teach a certain style of Kung Fu called Choy Li Fut. I looked up the keywords: martial arts, kung fu, and karate I found that more people search for the term "martial arts" than the words kung fu and karate combined. I have decided to use martial arts as my main keyword for this site and then the words tiger kung fu throughout the site. Other terms that are searched for each month on Google and Yahoo related to the keywords "martial arts" were the words "instruction" "gear" "weapons" and "training". Each of these words I will be putting in the first heading and if possible in the first two sentences of my copy. Another thing I will be doing is making links within this site named Martial Arts Training, Martial Arts Gear, Martial Arts Clothing, Martial Arts Instructors, and one for Chinese Weapons. With these words I will make their Title of their homepage: Martial Arts Instruction * Tiger Kung Fu * Reno Nevada This title will feature the main keyword first, and then school name and regional location. The first heading should read the same as the title and adding other keyword headings every 200 words. Try to keep your total ad copy to 400 words maximum per page. I'll have more on keyword research and copywriting next time.
